Of London. He is past President of European College of Gerodontology. He is Associate professor in Restorative Dentistry at University of Florence Italy Dental School. He has published numerous articles and abstracts in international . He has co-authored several books and publications. He is also an active international lecturer in esthetiic and innovative dentistry. He is Fellow of the Academy of Dento Facial Esthetics. He works in private practices in Londoměn UK, and Florence Italy.

Dr. Megighian has developed and patented the universal intraoral device MIOBALANCE., intended to reduce the consequences of chronic stress and to restore wellbeing.
His discoveries have been published in the book FACIAL BEAUTY, published by Times Group in India in 2013.
From 2005 to 2013 he has been Associate professor in Restorative Dentistry at University of Florence Dental School Italy, where he developed his research on trigeminal rebalancing and stress.
He has worked as Consultant in private medical practices in London UK, and Florence Italy for 24 years.
He received his Medical degree at Universitŕ di Padova Italy in 1988 and in the same University he was awarded with a Ph.D in Oral and Dental Surgery in 1991.
In 1993 he completed a postgraduate training in Geriatric Dentistry at the University of London.
He is past President of European College of Gerodontology.
He is Fellow of the Academy of Dento-Facial Aesthetics since 2005. He has published numerous articles and abstracts in international journals and he has co-authored several books and publications. He is also an active international lecturer in well ageing.

2015 - How can we cope with chronic stress? The role of “trigeminal rebalancing” to achieve well being and well ageing in the XXI century.

Chronic stress has been described by researchers, as the critical factor influencing the way we age. The more resistant to stress we become, the better we grow older developing protection against chronic metabolic diseases. Resistance to stress is a learning curve, that involves our ability to regain balance after a stressful event or to reframe our inner response to modern life. Basic research has shown the importance of a personal training regime that involves the daily stimulation of natural re-balancing mechanisms. Many models have been proposed to the public, like Mindfulness, Presencing and Meditation among others. In life style magazines techniques for stress management are proposed endlessly. What do they aim at? Such processes are intended to develop an acute perception of the present reality, in the diverse moments of our lives.

What is the science behind it? In medical terms such habit is called balanced resting state. It can be described as the situation in which, when experiencing reality, we exert full attention at the lowest energetic expenditure, ready to react if necessary, by triggering the Sympathetic Nervous System in the body and mind complex.

Modern neurophysiology has clarified the mechanisms and pathways that determine the mapping of reality, involving the limbic system, the prefrontal cortex, the perception of danger and the cognitive strategies developed in hundreds of thousand of years of evolutionary biology.

The Miobalance™ System is a personalised, individual and independent training aimed at restoring balanced resting state anytime stress has shifted the body from it. It is intended to revert the effects of stress, by exerting a natural stimulation of the involved areas of the brain. This is made possible in two ways.

The Mio™ (Miobalance™ Intra Oral device) is a universal (one fits all) appliance made of medical grade silicon material showing a specific design and resilience. When placed in the mouth, the automatic action of swallowing the saliva activates the reflexes that counterbalance stress.

The same results can be achieved with the Miobalance™ Re-Balancing Technique, which is delivered by trained practitioners. It is a full body experience in which the person is invited to perform light isometric exercises.

The Miobalance™ System is the simplest and most effective natural way to create the favourable conditions to protect us from chronic stress. Research informs us that the muscles involved in the clenching of the mouth are always stiffening in stressful situations. A simple opposition and resistance exercise, which involves the mandible (the bone that connects the right and left side of the head and has a double set of muscles innervated by the trigeminal nerves), is effective in sending signals to the brain stem to let go. In seconds balanced resting state is regained.

The fact that both the Technique and the intra oral device operate at the the brain stem level, in a totally non-verbal way is very much desirable, because it does not involve any specific cultural reference. It does not interfere with any technique, belief, identity or tradition as it operates at an intuitive level.
