2015 - Personalized Medicine is Great, but What About Personalized Health
Even with the advent of personalized or precision capabilities, today's medical philosophy favours a reactionary stance over a preventative one. As we begin to question what true health actually means, is the personalization of medicine really going to improve our quality of life or will it simply lead to greater efficiency in treating the symptoms without tackling the underlying cause of chronic diseases. We argue to look beyond adequate comparative health to real, unadulterated health and a personalized preventative and regenerative approach may offer us a suitable alternative to achieve this. This alternative should be a more well-rounded, holistic model which emphasises quality as well as quantity, at the expense of neither.
